ALLEN PARISH CANOE FESTIVAL
In 2012, an Oberlin High School senior, with a passion for public service and the desire to bring people together, realized a longtime dream: a new festival for Allen Parish. Along with a few dedicated volunteers, Matthew Hebert founded the Allen Parish Canoe Festival, which is preparing to celebrate its fourth year on April 24-25, 2015. One of the Executive Board’s goals has always been to offer a scholarship to other Allen Parish High School seniors with a deep commitment to community service. This year, the Board will award a one-time scholarship in the amount of $200 to a deserving 2015 graduate of an Allen Parish public high school.
To provide financial assistance to a student with an interest in pursuing continuing education in any field, and who has made significant contributions to their community through public service.
Students who meet the following criteria are eligible for scholarship. The candidate:
Application materials must be received by April 1, 2015, in order to be considered. The following materials should be submitted to your high school counselor, or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org :
Recipients will be selected by a committee appointed by the Allen Parish Canoe Festival Executive Board. The decision will be made based on application materials provided. The winner will be notified before April 24, 2015. The scholarship will be presented at the student's high school graduation ceremony, and a check will be issued upon receipt of verified enrollment in an accredited 4-year university, community college, or technical school.
